Maryam (they/she) is a queer non-binary woman, a Muslim, and an activist. They are the Director of TransActual, a trans-led and trans-run organisation working towards a world where trans people can live freely, safely, and with dignity, with access to healthcare that meets their needs. Maryam’s work at TransActual focuses on equality, diversity, and inclusion, community engagement and empowerment, as well as outreach, training, consultancy, and workshops.

 

They are deeply passionate about equality, diversity, and inclusion. In their day job, they have recently started as a Senior Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Specialist at Citizens Advice. Their role centres on supporting workforce disability and LGBTQ+ inclusion, leveraging research, current best practices, and their own knowledge and expertise. They are also a trustee of the Inclusive Mosque Initiative, an intersectional feminist mosque and registered charity dedicated to creating inclusive and safer spaces for marginalised Muslims.

 

Maryam is an experienced public speaker and workshop facilitator, covering a wide range of topics, including race, culture, religion, LGBTQ+ communities, community engagement, workplace inclusion, social justice, and activism.
